Tax Manager

Position Summary


Possess complete knowledge of the Firm’s philosophy and is conversant with its quality control policies and procedures. Assumes responsibility for reviewing tax compliance and managing the preparation of returns by tax staff. The Tax Manager will perform moderate to complex research and be involved in tax planning. Develops a high level of expertise in one or more specialized industry groups. Expected to participate in administrative planning, particularly in continuing education and personnel development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Work Methodology:

  • Be responsible for the performance of all facets of the tax engagement
  • Coordinates various phases of engagements: plans engagements, budgets time and expenses, monitor actual performance against budget, review working papers for accuracy and completeness, and review tax returns for suitability of presentation and adequacy of disclosures
  • Assigns work to staff members based on their knowledge and capabilities
  • Supervise the assignment of duties to, and training of, all personnel assigned to the tax engagement
  • Will be in charge of the overall work and, as such, will direct, control, and review the work of the seniors assigned on the tax engagement
  • Recognize in advance the possible problem areas of a tax engagement
  • Render sophisticated tax planning advise
  • Maintain good habits of personal time management
  • Able to work independently and in a team setting
  • Obtain an annual budget of 1600 chargeable hours with a total utilization of 2300 hours

Knowledge and Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of Internal Revenue Code and Regulations
  • Ability to supervise tax engagements and special assignments using established Firm policies and procedures
  • Resolves tax problems as they arise.
  • Support training of staff members, offers guidance and direction and provides feedback of work papers.
  • Continue to develop long-term professional relationships with clients through exceptional client service including: communicate tax engagement’s progress,
    problems, resolutions, financial information, and other business concerns to the client.
  • Read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
  • Prepares staff evaluation reports.
  • Prepare client billing statements on a monthly basis as requested by shareholders
  • Prepare CPE Seminars (with assistance of lower levels).
  • Attend required CPE Seminars
  • Perform other assigned duties, as requested

Criteria for Promotion:


Promotion to the Tax Senior Manager level, the Tax Manager must be able to perform each essential duty and have developed the skills necessary to apply your knowledge on assignments with decreasing amounts of supervision.

Educations and/or Experience:

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Bachelors degree in accounting from an accredited college or university
  • Five to eight years of public accounting experience
