Alpern Rosenthal Speaks to NAIOP About the Value of Marcellus Shale Rights for Landowners

PITTSBURGH, PA – Alpern Rosenthal’s Joshua Lefcowitz, senior manager, and Brandon Otis, manager, both members of the Business Valuation & Litigation Support Group, spoke to approximately 60 real estate industry experts & members of NAIOP on December 6, 2011. NAIOP is the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. The presentation,  ‘The Valuation of Marcellus Shale Mineral Rights’, included a discussion on the current landscape of drilling activities in Pennsylvania and the key factors that need to be analyzed in order to prepare a sound and defensible valuation of the property rights associated with the Marcellus Shale.

Mr. Lefcowitz and Mr. Otis spoke about various valuation issues and tax and estate planning strategies for land and mineral rights owners.  Mr. Lefcowitz emphasized, “A key issue related to the development of the Marcellus Shale for landowners to consider is the fact that we are in the very early stages of what will be a multi-generational issue.  There are many areas where professional guidance is recommended and/or necessary.”

Mr. Lefcowitz has more than 10 years of experience in public accounting. He has significant experience with clients in the following industries: oil and gas, manufacturing, retail, professional services, technology, biotechnology, wholesale distribution and advertising.

Mr. Otis has more than eight years of specialized and distinct business consulting experience. He has clients across a wide variety of industries, including: insurance, manufacturing and distribution, professional services, medical practices, construction contractors, and not-for-profits. They have ranged from Fortune 500 firms and some of the nation's largest professional practice firms, to individuals and sole proprietorships.
