Alpern Rosenthal Hosts 'An American Success Story' on How U.S. Companies Can Become the Low-Cost, High-Quality Producer in Any Industry

PITTSBURGH, PA – On Thursday, February 9, 2012, Alpern Rosenthal will host a Manufacturing Services Group special event on An American Success Story featuring Nathan Milikowsky. He has proven that U.S. companies can become the low-cost, high-quality producer in any industry. 

In May, 2003, C/G Electrodes, a U-S based graphite electrode producer, purchased the assets of the Carbide/Graphite Group, Inc. (CGGI), which were about to be liquidated and related jobs moved overseas. Shortly after the acquisition, C/G Electrodes was back to full capacity, had acquired its major supplier, Seadrift Coke, and was named Manufacturer of the Year by the Global Planning Commission. In November, 2010, GrafTech International completed its purchase of C/G Electrodes and Seadrift Coke for an aggregate of approximately $825 million. 

The management team, lead by Milikowsky, transformed the company in a way that no one thought could be done. The resurrection of C/G Electrodes as the leading producer of graphite electrodes preserved numerous jobs in St. Mary’s Pennsylvania, and it continues to grow as a part of GrafTech International. Today, he serves on the board of directors of GrafTech International and is its largest shareholder.
