Alpern Rosenthal Hosts Construction Seminar on Turning Your Project Managers into Business Managers

PITTSBURGH, PA – More than 60 guests attended Alpern Rosenthal’s winter construction services seminar at Chartiers Country Club in December 2011 on ‘Turning Your Project Managers into Business Managers’. Lee Smither, managing director of FMI Corporation, spoke to the crowd about being competitive in the construction market, and the necessity that project managers have additional skills beyond the technical knowledge necessary to complete projects. Smither says the most successful project managers have developed strong management, leadership and business skills that allow them to execute projects profitably. Topics covered at this session included:

• Understanding the financial impact of effective project controls, projected cash flow and getting paid for all of the work you do.
• How to proactively manage all aspects of the job utilizing innovative tools and leveraging relationships with key resources such as subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
• Building long-term client relations through an understanding of marketing and business development concepts

Mr. Smither helps construction companies and design firms sharpen their management practices and corporate performance. He specializes in strategic consulting, developing and implementing organizational initiatives, and designing executive development programs.
