Alpern Rosenthal Hosts CLE Seminar on Forensic Accounting
PITTSBURGH, PA – As part of a year-long breakfast seminar series that provide CLE credits, Alpern Rosenthal hosted its December seminar on Forensic Accounting: Investigation of Disappearing Assets.
This session was led by Brian Webster, senior manager, and Brandon Otis, manager, both members of the Business Valuation and Litigation Support Group at Alpern Rosenthal. The presentation was an overview of fraud and forensic accounting, with an emphasis on asset misappropriation schemes. “The most successful forensic investigations are those that are initiated as early as possible. For that reason it is imperative that business executives, legal counsel and forensic investigators all work as a team and remain proactive concerning fraud,” said Otis. The discussion included reviewing what to do if you suspect fraud and the distinctive phases of an internal investigation. “Investigation of disappearing assets for companies, especially smaller firms, is even more relevant today due the state of the national economy and the frequency of asset misappropriation schemes,” said Webster.
Mr. Webster has more than 15 years of specialized and distinct business consulting experience. His engagements have included clients in a wide variety of industries including: mining, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, banking, insurance, waste management and construction. Mr. Webster’s clients have ranged from small closely- held businesses to large publicly-traded multinational companies.
Mr. Otis has more than eight years of specialized and distinct business consulting experience. He has clients across a wide variety of industries, including: insurance, manufacturing and distribution, professional services, medical practices, construction contractors, and not-for-profits. They have ranged from Fortune 500 firms and some of the nation's largest professional practice firms, to individuals and sole proprietorships.
