PA Tax Amnesty Notices
Have you received a notice from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue regarding their new Tax Amnesty Program? If so, you are not alone. More than one million notices were sent to taxpayers on the first day of the program, which runs from April 26 to June 18.
Many taxpayers have been surprised by the notices, but there may not be any real cause for alarm. Although some taxpayers will have legitimate outstanding liabilities, it is also possible that some of these notices are erroneous, the Department of Revenue may be mistaken about the facts, and/or there may not be a significant issue. The only way to be sure is to log into the new PA Amnesty website (www.PATaxPayUp.com) and begin the process for application.
Now is also a good time for taxpayers with unreported liabilities to consider coming forward and disclosing them to the state. PA will reward such taxpayers by forgiving all penalties and half of the accrued interest on tax liabilities of which the state was not already aware. You can apply for tax amnesty at the same website, without any department-provided Personal Identification Number.
